      Your consultation

Before your visit to us

Given adequate notice, you will receive by post an information package, which will include a questionnaire about your trip, information about costs of vaccines and travel kits, a brief summary of recommendations advised for your principal destination and a survey relating to your experiences on your trip. Please complete the questionnaire and bring to the consultation.

Please also bring details of all vaccinations known to you. Your travel consultation provides the opportunity to review your routine vaccines, such as tetanus, diphtheria, measles and hepatitis B. You may need to consult your own GP or Council health department in order to establish an understanding of your current vaccinations.

The visit

Your consultation will review your health needs, any compulsory and recommended vaccinations, advised travel aids and, where necessary, will include a medical examination. Travellers in good health, especially those taking short trips, will not need to be examined. Others with special needs, e.g. the elderly, children, pregnant women and patients with medical problems, will need appropriate assessment and advice.
All travellers receive written advice on current conditions in their country of destination. This includes warnings on health conditions, civil unrest, crime, travel conditions and, wherever applicable, details of the Australian (or alternative) Embassy.
You will be advised on recommended vaccinations appropriate to your trip. All vaccines currently available in Australia are offered at competitive prices at Mooroopna Medical Centre. Some special vaccines, such as those used to protect against TB, require adequate notice.
Over the past two years, the supply of some vaccines has been uncertain as pharmaceutical companies face manufacturing difficulties. At MMC we try to maintain an adequate reserve but shortages seem to be an occasional inevitability.

Fees

Our consultation fee structure is time-based and does not include the cost of vaccines or travel kits. The usual travel health consultation requires at least half an hour, but a shorter time may be appropriate where no advice is necessary. Some fees may be shared where partners or travelling companions attend together.
Fees may be paid by credit card, EFTPOS or cash.
Consultations, vaccines and other services which are to be billed to a third party are provided only after prior arrangement or a letter of authority.
Medical benefits are available under Medicare for consultations relating to travel health, but are not provided for pre-employment examinations for staff working in foreign countries.
No Goods and Services Tax (GST) applies to consultations or vaccines, but does apply to some travel goods and kits.
